I had an elective surgery recently. Been discharged from the hospital. Care routines is what I’m busy with at home now. Well, not quite home, as we are all living very close to the hospital in a rented accommodation still. In a little less than 2 weeks, we will head back home. This is just a precautionary stay in case of any post-op complications.
I feel happy I can start to eat most things again now. I even had a super small slice of pizza yesterday! I don’t like pizza, but it felt good. It’s been hard to eat my regular diet just yet, but it’s mostly just a question of portions and not necessarily food itself. That’s good news. What they gave me at the hospital in terms of food is also becoming a little difficult to eat at home now. The doctors said they don’t like the kitchen food either. This is apparently a common experience and I guess I will warm up to these foods over time.
We took my IKEA lamp to the hospital room and now I hate to use it at home. It reminds me of the hospital and how awful everything was there. IV drips, all these medications, poking needles and on-duty doctor visits and harsh lights and sleepless nights and having to be cleaned everyday by the helper staff with wet wipes because you can’t even take a shower by yourself anymore… it’s been something.
Recovery is painful. Just that the worst parts are behind me now. Every day is a little bit better. I wonder how long before I can mostly, sort of, just about resume my normal life.
